inventory download problems

I am trying to do my first inventory download in almost one month. For some reason that baffles me, I can not open the file into excel. I keep getting error messages in excel saying that the file is incompatible. I haven't changed anything on my computer, but, Alibris has been monkeying with their system in the last month. I have emailed seller support, but it could be days until I hear back.

How are other sellers opening up their inventory downloads? I am hoping that I can...

New buttons mean I can't edit listing!

I had 2 copies of a book and I sold one on another venue. I want to edit my Alibris listing to say I have one copy, not two. Now with the "improvements" this is no longer possible! The choices are to "Feature", to delete, or to a add to a catalog. How can I edit my listing??? UPDATE: Nevermind, I figured it out. Use the tiny "edit" link in the center of the listing, rather than the big colored button.

Databases are out of sync

I sell on two different listing services and sometimes their databases are not in sync with my records on my home computer's database. (usually due to my own carelessness) Does anyone know of a method to compare three databases and find the records that are not on all three? I could then do a manual check of my inventory to determine the error. All the databases can be exported into excel format, just wondering if there is an excel guru among you that has experience and could point me in...

Running out of space

I am having a problem with inventory space. I have a large storage space at home and it's filling up quickly. Is there a way to add new books to my inventory under ID numbers that have already been sold? Some of the boxes of books are half empty and to utilize space can I have Alibris use item numbers that have been sold? If not, I think that it's something that everyone should think about in the book buisness, cause we cant afford to rent a space yet, we don't make enough...

Why so slow to add a new item?

It seems that Alibris has become much slower in the past few weeks, after adding a new listing, to reflect the new listing in the total count, to have the new listing available for editing, and to actually display the listing to buyers. Anyone else notice this?

Items w/o ISBN #'s not on Amazon

Hi everyone,
I don't know why I did not know this before, but I've been selling for almost a year and have about 5,000 books in inventory (mostly without ISBNS) and I had no idea that those books were not being sent over to Amazon. I was thinking of signing up for fillz and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with whether this would be a good idea or no. Like I said most of my inventory and some of the best stuff is pre-isbn and Amazon is my biggest producer.

On the Alibris seller hub, under "Preferences - Sales Channels", it says:
"Through our global seller network, Alibris helps its business partners expand their inventory and improve the speed of delivery of items they cannot supply directly. Our sellers' inventory will automatically be listed with Blackwell, Borders, Books-a-Million, Chapters/Indigo and Ingram.

Select bookseller listings are also automatically placed with Half.com, provided that a fulfillment...

I've tried everything that I know to locate another copy of the book I have so I can get an idea of its value and I've found nothing so far. I have used Bookfinder.com and bookfinder 4u.com etc.. Could someone let me know how to have some idea how to price a book that is hard to find information on without paying a service to do so?

i just started listing on alibris a couple of months back. i've found that when i do a simple title search on alibris.com, my books don't appear on the initial screen. i have to hit "expand your search" to see them. often my book is priced below the competition, which DOES show up on the initial screen. i've asked alibris about this but no response as of yet. does anyone know what governs what titles get onto that initial screen (which i'm sure 90 percent of alibris...

Shelf location field

Hi. I'm hoping somebody can help me with this.

Once a book has been ordered, I cannot seem to access the "Shelf Location" field for it's listing entry. We were hoping to use this field to keep track of what shelf we put the book on, but it seems to become inaccessible as soon as the book is ordered.

Any ideas?

For those of you who use AOB, you may want to check to see that your recent additions were actually added to your online inventory.

Starting with my uploads of December 21, none of my inventory is getting added. They are processing updates and deletes but additions are missing in action. They can't tell me why it's happening, just that they are working on it.

I'm hoping to find some more folks with the same problem, so this issue will be given a higher priority.

Uploading & downloading listings is all new to me. I've tried uploading from Alibris & downloading to other sites like Valore Books using Microsoft Office Excel and it is not working since no listing are downloading. I received the report below:

I read that the warehouse is good at losing orders. When that happens does it affect your rating? If so what can be done beforehand to prevent that from happening?

ISBN NUMBERS

Hi,
I am new to listing books on the web... I have lots of books that I got out of storage building alot of them do not have ISBN Numbers.. they are from the 30s, 40s, 50's, 60s, 70s and so forth... how do I assign an ISBN.. I am listing them on alibirs without an ISBN for now ... could someone assit me with this..
