I'd like to see those annoying sneaker ads deleted, too, but if it means the heavy-handed presence of a fascist "moderator" or
"facilitator," like they have on Abe, I'm willing to tolerate the sneaker ads. Or, for that matter, the nauseating drivel about "American
Idol." What that endless thread has to do with the book trade is beyond me. Be careful what you wish for, Gary.
Those people at Abe have absolutely no respect for free speech. I'd like to know a precise number, but I am quite confident that DOZENS of booksellers have
been banned, either permanently or temporarily, from the Abe forum, for minor indiscretions. It's a more interesting forum than Alibris, because of its
international complexion, but it's also full of Abe sycophants and toadies of one kind or another. And, in the end, I don't believe that the attitudes
expressed there are terribly representative of the book trade, since it's dominated by a bunch of retirees with tons of time on their hands, pathological
narcissists, and various and sundry lonelyhearts.
Although the sneaker ads are an irritant, I prefer the laissez-faire approach of the Alibris folks over the disrespectful and censorious attitudes of their
counterparts in Vancouver.

The sneaker, etc ads are annoying and have no place here as they are not created by booksellers, they are spam, and are of no interest to any of us. If
booksellers want to discuss A.I. what's the problem with that? The subject of the post makes it clear as to content and those who aren't interested can
simply pass over it. We are a community and if we want to discuss a non-book topic, even if it's 'ad nauseum', so what?

....yes, a few of us post A LOT about American Idol, but we are regulars here, we have an interest in American Idol, and we don't come around for the sole
purpose of selling shoes or televisions or jock straps. I agree that the sneaker ads are a minor irritant, however. Don't get me started about the ABE
forum. There are a lot of nice folks there, but also a lot of folks who simply are interested in insults and drawing blood. It is, at times, a very unfriendly
place. If this forum ever descends to that level, I'd quit coming around. -- Gary
Gary, I think you're a completely charming person, but we part ways on the subject of American Idle. Given the choice between a session of waterboarding
and an episode of American Idle, I'd choose waterboarding in a heartbeat. Don't take it personally.
I have an idea - we don't need a forum moderator who could become a censor...
But how about new people joining the forum have to have approval before they post? That was people with user names like "cheapsneakers.com" will not
get approved for posting...
Actually I am assuming they are doing this to a number of Yuku boards - so Yuku should be the ones to stop it unless they are getting paid for these ads...
....I don't want a strict censor either, but I think we all can see a good reason to have some type of restriction. It's right before your eyes.
I'll send in a note on the "contact" line at the bottom of the page, and it would be a good idea for you others to do the same unless you want
this forum hijacked by spamsters. -- Gary
PS -- I guess the best way is to go to the "community statistics" portion of the page. In the collection of items there's a "contact
support" click-on that seems to be the place to go. However, it doesn't have any place to put your email address and I don't know if they get back
to you or will do anything if there's no real "damage" being done. Of course you could put your own email address in the body of the message you
send. But, again, I don't know how diligent they are about things like this.

...the spammer has already been banned, but his/her posts are still around. And you can bet he/she will return with another name. I would appreciate it if the
site deleted the posts at the same time they ban the poster. -- Gary
....just sent in a complaint about our latest uninvited "guest." Hope it won't take too long to get some action. I know it doesn't actually
do any harm here, I doubt if many of us would be in the market for what he's pushing...or at least what I assume he's pushing. I'm sure not going
to click on the link. A lot of times, as I understand it, these guys get a small amount of money for every time somebody clicks on the link...and I sure
don't want to help the poster out in that regard. -- Gary
