I guess I'm not following your origninal post. If the customer pays for standard shipping, then tracking is not required. I thought you were referring to the optional expedited shipping methods? With these optional methods, they are all expedited and all require tracking with the exception of the first option. With the first option, USPS Priority is acceptable with delivery confirmation (call it whatever you like).

The difference between delivery confirmation and tracking information, historically speaking, has been the customer signature required at the end. Delivery confirmation just shows when it was scanned at the local post office, much of the time, and has generally been much less reliable depending on whether it was scanned at each step of the delivery. I know a lot of you will disagree with me, but in our experience, the USPS is extremely inconsistent with scanning d/c numbers, especially at the point of delivery to the end customer. Our textbook partners seem to agree with me, however, because they insist on "real" tracking for most expedited orders.

I imagine at some point in the future, we will require d/c or tracking on all expedited orders, just as other large marketplaces starting with "A" have threatened to do. It's just the way the market is heading. At the same time, we will offer the option for you to opt out of all expedited orders.
