Today I got another order for an expensive title, now priced at--you guessed it!--$3.16! I checked in Inventory History and found this title had been automatically repriced 2 days after I disabled the repricing system! What in the heck is going on here?? Sara

IF PURGING OR MANUAL REPRICING DO NOT WORK I WILL TRY TO PUT A HOLD ON MY HIGHER PRICED BOOKS IN THE ALIBRIS MARKET. I AM INSTALLING NEW SOFTWARE TODAY AND MAYBE IT CAN BE DONE. I AM FRIGHTENED BY THE NEW PRICING. LAST NIGHT I WANTED TO ORDER A COUPLE OF BOOKS FOR MYSELF ON AMAZON AND THE FIRST FIVE WERE 0.01. OF COURSE, THERE WAS NO DESCRIPTION OF THE ITEMS. I FINALLY FOUND A COPY WITH DESCRIPTION--"AS NEW, NEVER READ"--FOR $0.65. EVEN AT A GARAGE SALE YOU PAY 0.25 FOR A MP. THE EXPERIENCED BOOKSELLER THAT HELPED ME AT THE BEGINNING ADVICED ME TO LIST NOTHING BELOW $6. I USED $5. I CANNOT GO BELOW THIS FIGURE. A BOOKSELLER WRITING IN IOBA'S PUBLICATION STATES THAT ANYHING LISTED BELOW $10 COSTS THE SELLER MONEY. NEED I SAY THAT I AM BROKEN HEARTED BY MY STUPIDITY IN ALLOWING A THIRD PARTY CONTROL OVER MY PRICING?

Yes, I did hear from Alibris finally--it took them 5 days to get back to me. All they said was that they had cancelled the order with no mark against my account, and they noticed that I had disabled the automatic pricing, so I shouldn't have any more problems. Sara

Maybe this is somewhat unrelated, but although I opted not to use the automatic repricing, I noticed that when Alibris lists my items with other sales channels, including the Alibris Library Website, it opts to reprice my prices upward anyway. I checked my listings and found that on other sites, Alibris added a very large premium to my listings, in most cases, placing my items into what I believe is a non-competitive pricing range. This seems contrary to my ability to drum up sales via fair pricing (I am never a .01 seller) and below board... If I list a book or movie for $15 and Alibris relists it for $30, are they going to share that additional $15 with me, or do they pocket it as I suspect and then collect my commission as well? Frankly, I was shocked by how high they had repriced some of my items and am now not surprised by the slow sales.

Technically that is not repricing. Alibris raises the price on (some of?) their partners sites to cover the cost of listing there. I don't know whether it covers the complete commission to the partner or not but I don't think they make money on it. In addition, if you are not in the US, there is a "penalty" of up to $12 added to the cost of the item if it is listed on alibris.com. A similar penalty occurs if you are outside the UK and list on alibris.co.uk. I have no idea what happens to this money. I suspect it is just greed but I could be wrong.

I check my manage listings every other day-even though I wrote and told them I didn't sell books for what other people determined they were worth. It'll take a couple of weeks to get an answer from them, they are dogged in their slowness. Look down at the bottom and note the box that says collectable and use it instead of relisting the book.

Other than that, stay away from it. It's definitely more trouble than it's worth. Nothing but one big headache. -- Gary

I read the guidelines and have been with them for years. No where did I find that they get to price my books. Yet I have about 8,000 books up and they have 800 on hold because they don't like the pricing. I should be allowed to price however I like. I have a store and the books are in the store priced the way they sell. I've been doing this 15 years and I'm still a brick and mortar. I don't feel it is up to them to hold books of mine for being sold because they don't like the pricing. They are more than happy to let people underprice! Besides, when my books sell they make more. Are they nuts to exclude sellers like this? I may drop them and just go straight to amazon as i sell more through their site than Alibris anyway.
